Anime Cutout AI: Lift Your Character Off the Background as a Transparent PNG
Stickers, emotes, stream overlays, thumbnails and visual-novel sprites all need the same thing: your character with nothing behind it. Upload the art, and the Image Background Remover finds the subject by itself and returns a transparent PNG for 4 credits. No mask to paint, no lasso.
One thing to know first. The model is described around people, products, animals and objects, and drawn characters are not on that list. That does not mean it cannot cut out anime art, only that we cannot promise how cleanly. Give it the easy case, a character with a clear outline on a plain background that contrasts with the hair and the line colour, and zoom in on the edge before you use the file.
From character art to a clean PNG
Start with a plain background
Generating the art in the Image Lab? Ask for a flat, plain background in a colour that appears nowhere on the character, such as mid grey behind black hair and white clothes. Busy scenery behind loose hair is the hardest thing to cut away.
Upload it
Choose Image Background Remover in the control bar and upload a single JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP file of 50 MB or less. If the art is small, upscale it first: more pixels along the edge give the cutout more to work with.
Run the cutout
It costs 4 credits an image, shown before you run it, and a failed run is refunded.
Check the edge at 200%
Look at hair strands, the gap between arm and body, see-through parts such as veils, glasses or glow effects, and thin props like a staff or a ribbon. Then save it and keep it as PNG, because JPEG throws transparency away.
Two models: stills and short clips
Image Background Remover
Finds the subject without a mask and returns a transparent PNG. 4 credits an image, one image per run.
Video Background Remover
Separates the subject frame by frame in a 3–15 second clip. Leave the backdrop empty for a transparent background, or add an image to place behind the character. 2 credits a second, 5 seconds minimum.
Prices for every model are on AI Models.
Edges on drawn characters: what to check
- Hair: fine strands and flyaways against a busy background are where a cutout goes wrong first. A plain backdrop gives them the best chance.
- Outlines: make sure the dark line is still there all the way round. Where it has been trimmed, generate the art again with a thicker outline or a backdrop colour further from the line colour.
- Enclosed gaps: the space between an arm and the waist, or inside a loop of hair, should be transparent too. Look for small islands of the old background.
- Semi-transparent parts: veils, lenses, magic effects and soft glows can come out solid or disappear. If they matter, paint them back in your editor.
Sizes for stickers and emotes
Work large and shrink last. Cut out at full size, tidy the edge, then scale down to what the platform asks for, so the outline stays smooth.
Two published specs, as of November 2026: Discord’s developer documentation describes a custom emoji as a 128×128 image with a 256 KiB file limit, and LINE Creators Market asks for sticker images of at most 370×320 px, saved as PNG with a transparent background, 1 MB or less each, with about 10 px of space around the art. Other platforms set their own sizes, so check before you export.
Animated cutouts from video
The Video Background Remover takes clips of 3 to 15 seconds, as MP4, WebM or MOV files of 50 MB or less. Billing is 2 credits per second and never less than 5 seconds: 10 credits for the shortest clip, 30 for the longest. Without a backdrop image the background comes out transparent; check that your editor shows it. If it does not, add a plain backdrop image in a colour the character never wears and key that colour out in your editor instead.
For an animated sticker or emote, convert the clip to the format your platform accepts in a separate tool. SpicyHub AI does not export GIF or APNG.
What people make with cutouts
- Visual-novel and game sprites: one cutout per expression, laid over your own backgrounds.
- Stream overlays and channel art, with your character in a corner of the screen or over a title card.
- Thumbnails and covers that put the character in front of big title text.
- Sticker and emote sets for your own channel or server.
- Reference sheets: the extra views from Multi-Shot, cut out and lined up on one clean background.

Anime Cutout FAQ
Can it handle anime hair?
Fine strands are the hardest part of any cutout. The model is described as coping with hair in photos; for drawn hair we cannot promise the same, so give it a plain, contrasting background and check the strands at 200% before you use the PNG.
Will the outline survive?
Check it all the way round at 200%. A backdrop close to the line colour makes the edge harder to find, so if the line is trimmed in places, regenerate the art on a backdrop further from that colour, or with a thicker outline.
Can I cut out a whole set at once?
Not in one go: each run takes one image or one clip. For a sprite set, run them one after another; at 4 credits each, 10 expressions cost 40.
Which video formats work?
MP4, WebM and MOV files between 3 and 15 seconds, 50 MB or less. You get a transparent background, or the character over a backdrop image you upload.
Is it free?
During the beta a new account starts with 50 free credits, which pay for 12 image cutouts. After that it is 4 credits an image or 2 a second of video. More credits come with the plans on Pricing once payments open.
Is there a watermark?
No. Nothing visible is stamped on the cutout. If a site’s rules or your local law require an AI label, add one yourself when you post.
What happens to my uploads?
Two parties handle them: SpicyHub AI and the outside company hosting the model. Uploads stay in your account’s storage so you can reuse them, and may help improve the service. You need the rights to what you upload, under the Terms. Deleting your account erases your files, and support will remove individual ones on request. More in the Privacy Policy.
